Foods To Avoid As You Age For Your Eyes To Be Healthy

Food provides nourishment for the organs in our body. However, the type of food we eat everyday may either improve or cause damage to the eyes. Once you clock 40, you have to limit your intake of these 5 foods to avoid damaging your eyes during old age.

1. Fried foods

You should limit your intake of deep fried foods cooked in trans fats because it is very unhealthy for your eyes, especially when you are above 40. The trans fats in fried foods can cause diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration(AMD) that may occur during old age.

2. Processed meat

Processed meat is very unhealthy for your eyes, because it contains high amount of sodium. Once you clock 40, you should limit how often you eat processed meat because its high salt content may cause hypertensive retinopathy which may damage blood vessels in the eyes and even lead to blurred vision during old age.

3. White Bread

White bread is also another type of food you should avoid once you are above 40. Studies shows that white bread contains simple carbohydrates which can digest easily, increase your sugar level, and also increase your risk of having age-related macular degeneration, which may cause blindness during old age.

4. Caffeine

Once you are above 40, you should limit your caffeine intake to avoid damaging your eyes during old age. Studies shows that the caffeine found in beverages and coffee, can increase the pressure in your eye. This pressure may affect people with glaucoma and may even result to loss of vision during old age.

5. Processed Canned Foods

Studies shows that most of the processed canned foods such as soups, usually have a high amount of sodium which is very unhealthy for the eyes especially when you are above 40. You should limit regular consumption of these prepackaged canned foods because its high salt content may lead to eye problems during old age.
